The flower culture is deeply rooted within Latvian people. Either youngsters attending the first day at school with a blooming flower bouqet or a bunch of men lining up for the fresh tulips around the 8th of March. It is common to see a flower seller in the middle of the winter and it can’t be imagined to have a celebration or a mourning without a presence of flowers.
My grandmother worked in the botanical garden for more than 50 years growing flowers while my grandfather sold the flower bouqets on the market. I found a bunch of moldy diapositives lying in their wardrobe and mixed them with the photographs I made myself when visiting the garden.
